Working with a publisher helps spread out the risk for everyone involved. There are very few developers that also self-publish, at least when it comes to games with the scope that Obsidian likes to include. If your comment about us working for someone refers to working for Sega with Alpha Protocol, then that's just part of the game everyone plays when you try to make games. Just, think about itĪs mentioned, we do have Alpha Protocol in development, which is a unique franchise that we've created in-house. And in the last game (don't remember the name) I assume you are working FOR someone too.īoth KOTOR2 and NWV2 were made extremely well, they earned a lot of points on Gamespot and other game rating sites.

Well, I've been thinking, why does Obsidian only make games from somebody else title KOTOR (LucasArts), Aliens (SEGA) and Neverwinter Nights (Atari), wouldn't it be kind of cool if you guys could create a own game, that sells like. One of the primary reasons that I'm looking forward to Dragon Age is that there is a decent chance that the setting will feel fresh and be interesting. steampunk, westerns, non-traditional fantasy etc. Personally I would like to see Obsidian, or any other developer for that matter, to explore settings which are interesting but not fashionable i.e. Not that I dislike DnD RPGs for being DnD RPGs, but most of them, especially the ones in the swordcoast setting, tend to get a bit boring as much of it has been explored plenty. AP is quite interesting for me because it will explore a relatively untouched setting and seems to want to do it in an interesting way and that usually helps a game a lot. To build on this I'd like to throw up the idea of of non-traditional settings. I'd be happy with a lower budget game, if it meant being a bit more "edgy". The Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase takes place on Sunday, 12 June 2022 at 7PM SAST.I'd like it if they go the way Bioware seems to go with Dragon Age (from what they've said anyways), a game that is more aimed at the hardcore RPG base. We recommend taking this with a pinch of salt until the show later this week. Xbox apparently mandated several of its first-party studios to have gameplay ready in time for the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, with Obsidian Entertainment presumably being one of these studios. It will also reportedly feature swimming gameplay and destructible environments.

In October last year, Windows Central reported that Avowed would have two-handed first-person combat similar to Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Avowed, on the other hand, is reportedly already in a semi-playable state, according to Video Games Chronicle. While the studio has unveiled both, it stated that The Outer Worlds 2 was simply a title (as the reveal trailer cleverly remarked) and wasn’t close to completion. Obsidian Entertainment is currently working on two known projects: The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed.

Given the timing, the most likely candidate is Avowed, which has yet to receive an official release date but we know it’s coming exclusively to Xbox Series X/S and PC. Hannah Kennedy, a concept artist at Obsidian who previously worked on The Outer Worlds, tweeted: “Man… it’s gunna be extremely cool when I can finally share what I’ve been working on for the last 2 years.” Fans immediately dismissed The Outer Worlds 2 as that title is seemingly further out from an official release. It looks like that might change soon as Obsidian developers are possibly teasing its arrival at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase this weekend. The anticipated game was first unveiled in 2020, but news has been scarce about this mysterious role-playing project. Avowed is an upcoming fantasy RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, the developers behind The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas.
